About the Program

The Mrudangam & Konnakol sessions follow a structured approach to introducing students to the fundamentals of Carnatic rhythm through both instrumental practice and vocal percussion. The programme combines Mrudangam playing with Konnakol (rhythmic syllable recitation) to help learners internalise rhythm and develop a strong rhythmic foundation.

Each class focuses on building basic hand techniques on the Mrudangam along with clear articulation of rhythmic syllables through Konnakol. Students learn to understand and maintain different tala structures while gradually strengthening their laya (sense of timing and rhythm). Guided practice connects vocal rhythm patterns with drum patterns, improving coordination and rhythmic awareness.
