This Kathak programme provides structured and progressive training in classical Kathak dance. Each session begins with body conditioning, posture alignment, and foundational footwork (Tatkaar) practice to build stamina and clarity. Students learn fundamental hand gestures (Hastak), body postures (Aangik), expressive storytelling (Abhinaya), and spinning technique (Chakkar).
Students develop taal understanding and rhythmic awareness through structured exercises, learning to count cycles and recognise patterns. Simple compositions (Toda and Tihai) are introduced to prepare students for structured choreography and eventual stage performance.
Learning Outcome:
1) Tatkaar — Footwork Precision & Rhythm
Students develop strong foundational Kathak footwork through structured Tatkaar practice, building the clarity, stamina, and rhythmic precision that defines this classical form.
2) Hand Gestures, Postures & Classical Vocabulary
Students learn Hastak (hand gestures) and Aangik (body postures) of Kathak, developing the expressive physical vocabulary that gives this dance form its storytelling power.
3) Abhinaya — Expression & Storytelling
Sessions develop the ability to convey emotion and narrative through controlled facial expression and physical presence — the dimension that makes Kathak uniquely powerful as a performance art.
4) Taal Understanding & Rhythmic Intelligence
Students develop understanding of taal cycles and rhythmic patterns, learning to count, feel, and navigate the rhythmic framework that all Kathak composition and improvisation rests upon.
5) Chakkar, Composition & Stage Readiness
Spinning technique (Chakkar), Toda and Tihai compositions, and performance practice build the technical range and stage confidence that prepare students for structured classical performance.
